“Life is Not Fair but my Knickers Are” is a UK label created by Sarah Duncan and Julia Brown.
Sarah worked for many years in the manufacture and supply of underwear to major retailers in the UK and USA and experienced the emergence of manufacturing in China, India, and Morocco. Sarah is passionate about Fairtrade and believes lingerie and loungewear can be desirable and affordable, as well as ethical. ‘We want women to buy our product because they love it – the fact that it is Fairtrade is a bonus.’
Julia’s background is also in the supply of underwear and so is dedicated to lingerie and ethical trading. ‘It is our philosophy to design and create ethically sourced lingerie and loungewear that is both desirable and affordable. We work with Fairtrade certified cotton to produce beautifully designed garments that women will love.’
Sarah and Julia’s shared values in Fairtrade, combined with their love of lingerie, ultimately resulted in the launch of Life’s Not Fair But…My Knickers Are!
A personal note from Sarah…
“ I spent many happy years working in manufacturing. I think maybe you have to be slightly mad but I thought manufacturing was great fun and I made many life-long friends. I love the product – in my time I have stitched it, designed it and purchased fabric and trims for it.
I believe that the young women who buy Life’s Not Fair But….My Knickers Are products should enjoy wearing their underwear and loungewear even when life isn’t as fair as it might be. I believe too that those who are employed in manufacturing our garments deserve not just to survive but also to have a great deal of fun in a more fair world.”
